Ok, so you've been hooked on AlfaFrens for a few weeks now. You know how challenging it can be to keep up with all your favorite channels—or the comments in your own. Some users are following hundreds of channels, which can be overwhelming. Currently, there's no built-in way to get notifications for new posts. But I've found a workaround that will help you stay updated with your favorite channels. Let me show you how to set up alerts using Distill.io.
Sign Up for Distill
First things first, you'll need to sign up for Distill and install the Chrome extension. Here's how:
Visit Distill.io: Head over to the Distill.io website and sign up for an account.
Install the Chrome Extension: Once you're signed up, install the Distill.io Chrome extension.
Set Up Monitoring for Your Favorite Channels
Now that you have Distill.io set up, let's get those alerts working.
Open Your Favorite Channels: Open the AlfaFrens channels you want to monitor in your desktop browser. Start with mine, for instance.
Activate the Extension: Click on the Distill extension icon in your Chrome toolbar and select "Monitor Full Page." This will bring up a new window where you can customize your alert settings.
Customize Your Alerts:
Update the Name: Rename the alert to include the name of the channel you're monitoring.
Set the Interval: Choose how often you want Distill to check for new content. This could be every few minutes, hourly, etc.
Add Actions: Configure the actions for your alert. You can set it to play a bell sound, open the tab, and ping you on the mobile app.
Enable Mobile Alerts
Yes, there’s a mobile app for Distill.io! Here’s how to set it up:
Install the Mobile App: Download and install the Distill mobile app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
Log In: Log in with the same account you used on your desktop.
Sync Alerts: Your alerts from the desktop will sync with the mobile app, so you'll receive notifications on your phone whenever there's new content on your monitored channels.
Stay Ahead with Real-Time Updates
This setup might be a bit hacky, but it’s a great way to stay on top of AlfaFrens feeds and monitor messages from your own subscribers until we get the features we want from the AF team. If you found this guide helpful, give me a sub on my AF channel and follow me on Farcaster.
